Navy staff at San Nicolas Island maintain a field station to monitor more than 500 archaeological sites located and mapped on San Nicolas Island. These sites have been entered into a central database and are considered before conducting testing and training activities. The Navy follows standard operating procedures in the case of inadvertent discovery of cultural materials.
